Special Edition DVD and CD-ROM of Champlain: The Lake Between

To order the Special Edition DVD and CD-ROM of Champlain: The Lake Between, please email chimneypoint@historicvermont.org or call 802-759-2412.

The cost, which covers postage and handling, is $19.95 each.

This Special Edition is an educational package, for use in the classroom and by families who love to learn, focusing on a little known time in the history of the Lake Champlain region-from the time just before 1609 and the arrival of Samuel de Champlain into the lake bearing his name up to the 1760s.

It contains a DVD of the documentary film, Champlain: The Lake Between, with bonus footage and a CD-ROM with background information, historic maps, activities tailored to thematic chapters, suggested reading and related websites. Together, the documentary DVD and educational materials create diverse pathways to explore world forces impacting the Champlain Valley region centuries ago.

The film, Champlain: The Lake Between, will connect students to life during an era of complex, world-shaping interactions between the people of Native and European nations.

The educational materials on the CD-ROM include these chapters:

Abenaki History and Culture
Champlain and the Beginning of New France
1609: A Historic Event
Haudenosaunee/Iroquois Culture
Lake Champlain French Forts and Settlers
Additional Resources, including historic maps

Within the chapters are background information, classroom activities for younger and older, worksheets, and suggested readings and websites.

This Special Edition is part of the project, Lake Champlain Voyages of Discovery: Bringing History Home, conducted by the partnership of the Chimney Point State Historic Site, Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, Vermont Public Television, Broadwing Productions, and the Bixby Memorial Free Library.
