HISTORIC PRESERVATION GRANTS

July 21, 2009

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the 2010 Historic Preservation Grant Program. The Division for Historic Preservation, in cooperation with the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, is very pleased to announce that the Vermont Legislature appropriated $200,000.00 for the 2010 Historic Preservation Grant Program, which offers competitive 50/50 matching grants of up to $15,000 for repair of historic buildings. Approximately fifteen matching grants will be awarded.

The broad purpose of the State of Vermont’s grant program for historic buildings is to preserve these important historic structures as they represent Vermont’s architectural and community heritage to current and future generations. Buildings must be owned by a non-profit organization or a municipality and be listed or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Eligibility for listing will be determined by the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation as part of the application process. This is a reimbursement grant program, which means a grant recipient is responsible for paying for the full amount of the project and the state will reimburse the grant recipient once all the required paper work is complete.

Please read the entire 2010 Grant Manual before completing the application. Also, be sure to pay special attention to the photograph requirements, allow time in your schedule for photo processing and be aware that you will need a good cost estimate for the project budget.

Completed applications must be postmarked or delivered to the office of the Division for Historic Preservation by 4:30 p.m. on October 5, 2009.  Applications that are late, incomplete, faxed or emailed will not be considered.

The Division’s mailing and physical address is:
Vermont Division for Historic Preservation
National Life North Building
One National Life Drive—2nd Floor
Montpelier, VT  05620-1201

The Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will review all of the applications and select the grant recipients in December 2009. All applicants will receive written notification of the results by January 2010.

If you have any questions that are not covered in the Grant Manual, please call 802-828-3043 for assistance.  We look forward to receiving your application.

Sincerely,
VERMONT DIVISION FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Nancy E. Boone
