HISTORY IS ALIVE AT OLD CONSTITUTION HOUSE!

WINDSOR, Vt. -- The Old Constitution House State Historic Site is hosting four days of period reenactments on August 30 & 31 and October 11 & 12, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

“History Happens at Old Constitution House” is a series of weekend programs organized for this State-owned Historic Site, located on North Main Street in Windsor,  by 18th century re-enactors Carolyn and Carl Malikowski.  Residents of Windsor, this husband and wife team will demonstrate early woodworking, powder horn carving, outdoor cooking, and other domestic activities.  Members of the 1777 Republic of Vermont Committee will join the festivities and offer traditional children’s games, quilting and crocheting activities, and guided tours of the site.

Originally a tavern where Vermont’s first constitution was adopted on July 8, 1777, the Old Constitution House is now a State-owned Historic Site.  Its exhibits and tours focus on the constitution that was the first in America to prohibit slavery, and the first to establish universal manhood suffrage and a system of public schools.

The Old Constitution House State Historic Site is located at 16 North Main Street in Windsor.  The 2008 season is May 24 - October 13, Saturday - Sunday and Monday holidays, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  For further information call 802-672-3773, or visit the State-owned Historic Sites online at www.HistoricVermont.org/sites
