  DEEP SPACE NIGHT AT HUBBARDTON

    Hubbardton, VT—The stars will be coming out for this program—the annual “Star Light, Star Bright Star Night” astronomy observation at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site on Saturday, August 30, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. for a special astronomy program.  Members of the Green Mountain Astronomers will be on hand with their telescopes and knowledge will focus on the planets and other deep space objects.  MORE More

    PLYMOUTH NOTCH, Vt. – The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site hosts the fifth annual Plymouth Folk & Blues Concerts on Labor Day Weekend, August 30 & 31,  2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  The event teams Vermont stars and nationally known musicians in a lively folk and blues festival held in the pure country air of historic Plymouth Notch.   ATLATL-MAKING WORKSHOP IN ADDISON

    ADDISON, Vt. – Step back thousands of years and try your hand at making and an atlatl, a spear-thrower used for hunting around the world before the advent of the bow and arrow.  On Friday, September 12, champion atlatlist Robert Berg of Thunderbird Atlatl will present his atlatl-making workshop at the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison from noon to 5:00 p.m.  The afternoon includes making your own atlatl, making and fletching three field darts, and coaching from Berg on the use of your new equipment.  MORE More

  SPECIAL SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AFTERNOONS
AT CHIMNEY POINT
weekends through October 12
    ADDISON, Vt. – The Chimney Point State Historic Site offers special weekend afternoons through the season with hands on activities to enjoy the many thousands of years of history at this historic location on lake Champlain.  Every second Saturday (August 9, September 13, and October 11) is Second Saturdays.  On August 9, learn about the French colonial past with games, French dress up basket for children, and what maps and archeological artifacts can tell us.  On September 13, it’s the annual northeast open atlatl competition, and on October 11 biologist Elizabeth Gilbert presents a program, “The Fameuse: How ‘bout them Apples?,” the French or Chimney Point apple. MORE More
